Recently, a few friends spent a lovely Spring day with me in Père Lachaise cemetery, strolling the grounds and visiting some of the famous and infamous people who are buried here.

Besides an amazing history, the cemetery is a beautiful place to spend a morning or afternoon along the tranquil and peaceful streets. The monuments and mausoleums are stunning, with distinctive tombs, intriguing and captivating sculptures and poignant memorials to the Holocaust and other mass tragedies.

I love giving people tours of Père Lachaise and the other Paris cemeteries: Montparnasse, Picpus and Montmartre. The nearly endless number of human stories, the connection to the Paris Catacombs, and the connection to the modern pastoral cemetery movement and the idyllic beauty of the trees, the grounds and the ambiance of Père Lachaise make for a tour of interest to almost everyone!
